Welcome to the HCC Distance Education (DE) Successful Online Students sample course! We
are excited that you are visiting us and we hope that the information
contained within the S.O.S. will answer many questions that you may
have about distance education at HCC.
- The DE S.O.S. is designed to accomplish two major goals:
a) To offer visitors a look into a free, sample Blackboard course. (Blackboard is the software that HCC uses to present its online courses)
b) To provide prospective and/or current students with an introduction to the DE Department and online learning at HCC.
- The DE S.O.S. demonstrates most of the tools that are found within a typical online, Blackboard course:
a) It will provide you with a familiarity and understanding of these various tools.
b) Also, the S.O.S. course uses Blackboard
to convey important information that will introduce you to the DE
Department. The DE Department expects that this information will
better prepare students who are considering enrolling in an online
course.
- How to access the DE S.O.S.:
a) In order to provide users with a complete experience of what to expect when accessing an online course, we included the Blackboard course login feature as part of the S.O.S. To LOGIN: the Blackboard User name is: guest and the Password is: distance. Once you login, simply click the DE S.O.S. – Successful Online Students link on the Blackboard Homepage and that will take you directly into the class.
